The moment the room lights up after dark, that same glass turns into a lit stage for anyone on the street or the slope below. A day-and-night blind is the one product built to answer both halves of that day without swapping blinds at sunset.
How the bands actually work
Alternating sheer and solid horizontal fabric bands slide against each other on one mechanism. Align the sheer bands for daylight — soft, filtered light with the view still readable through it — or offset them so solid meets solid for full privacy and near-blockout after dark. It's a dial, not a switch, so a room can sit anywhere between the two depending on the hour.
On a ridge-top stand in Welgemoed, we usually pair a day-and-night blind with the honest acknowledgement that it isn't a wind-rated exterior product — it does the privacy and light-tuning job indoors, while a folding-arm awning or external venetian does the heat job outside.
In a newer Plattekloof build with frameless-corner glass, the zebra band pattern also softens what would otherwise be a very hard, very bright reflection off Table Bay in the late afternoon — a genuinely different problem from a shaded valley-floor window in Durbanville.

Guides per square metre, installed. Without a motor, expect R1,300 to R2,000 for each square metre of banded blind. is trickier to make than a one-fabric roller, and so the range starts higher; width, the weight of the solid stripe and whether a cassette hides the tube all move the number inside it.
Motorised, the band shifts up to R2,800 – R4,000 for every square metre. On this product it is often the right call, because the value of a day-night blind lies in small, frequent adjustments to line the bands up, and a blind that is awkward to reach quietly stops being adjusted. A minimum applies to little windows, and nothing is fixed until each opening has been measured and priced in writing.
